What I currently do
I am currently Innovation Director of the Time Out Group, a company that helps 36m people across the globe make the most of their cities. My role involves looking at the horizon to see what's next and then embedding innovative practices and thinking across the organisation. I build partnerships, incubate new product offerings, and evaluate new opportunities with brilliant start-ups.
As well as a Founder of the Point People, I am a Board Advisor to 100% Open, a member of the Advisory Board of Institute of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE) at Goldsmiths, I am an Advisor at Atlas of the Future, a Mentor for Bethnal Green Ventures and Entrepreneur First, and member of the Design Council’s Spark Investment Panel.
I was previously an anthropologist and documentary filmmaker, making far flung films in Columbia to Pakistan, until I landed in the world of start-ups in 2006, founding a small technology company, LikeCube. Based on my frustration at the lack of sources for personalised recommendations for travellers, I won support and initial finance from NESTA, as part of the ‘Creative Pioneer Programme’ and went on to build a recommendation system which was described by users as “10 out of 10”, “spooky” and “bang on the money”. LikeCube was acquired by the Time Out Group and Oakley Capital in July 2011.
What interests and excites me
I am, at heart, a networks person with a passion for new ideas and ventures. I spend much of my time connecting people and ideas, and building the right team around the right projects. I love to communicate ideas between sectors and worlds, and bring profile and ambition to things I believe in.
